1. bromine:

On January 6th, 1912, Alfred Wegener, a German meteorologist, presented a lecture called “Die Heraushebung der Großformen der Erdrinde (Kontinente und Ozeane) auf geophysikalischer Grundlage”, or “The uprising of large features of earth’s curst (Continents and Oceans) on geophysical basis”. 100 years ago today, the lecture that introduced the idea of continental drift and Pangaea was delivered, an idea that would go on to influence the theory of plate tectonics - once mocked, now widely taught today in classrooms. Pretty neat!
Happy 100th anniversary of continental drift!
